Bogen Manfrotto Tripod Showcase - ScribeMedia.org
The first challenge putting together this overview video was to condense hours of footage covering the complete Manfrotto tripod collection and distill the great 8 it to a 5 minute web format and still reflect the line in general.
I always try to create a visually dense frame to pack in visual references to the on screen dialogue and add supportive text & graphic elements to deliver maximum content as quickly as possible. I find my personal “Visual Metabolism” raised when watching web-media so I try to keep the edit in constant motion to keep the viewer engaged.
I had lots of “B-roll”/close up footage to work with which was shot in sync with the presenter wide-shot and my first graphic treatment was to simplify the image by reducing the colour spectrum with filters such as de-saturation, tint and colourise. the great 8
To simplify the image further, I wanted to get a second layer with a line-drawing/schematic look. I used a variety of line-art, min max, contrast, the great 8 glow on a copy of the colouried footage, then key-ed out with a luma style key and used the result of this process as an overlay on the first colour reduced version.
For all this set up, it allowed me to quickly and easily vary the colour and treatment of both the line drawing overlay and the colour reduced under-layer of the background comp thru-ought the video. I’m a big fan of using lots of repetition of an image with variation of the “look” of the image for both aesthetic and communicative reasons.
I wanted to reference the 1929 Russian film classic “The Man with a Movie Camera” for two reasons; firstly to show the long history of tripods and the consistency of their design and secondly, because nobody needs a great tripod more than a stop-motion animator where jiggles turn into earthquakes…… About the Bogen Manfrotto 503HDV, 535K Kit
