Another big difference between Castle and the castles of the Côte d

The Castle of Good Hope, Cape Town, is like no other building in our history. This is our oldest colonial building, and sees something similar anywhere seashells else. But at the forte of the Côte d'Azur you realize that's Castle yet part of a genre, being deep in European military seashells architecture rooted.
The pentagonal fortress or castle seashells seldom see on the southern coast of France. The one that I know of, but have not visited, Fort Lamalgue (built 1764 - 1789) in Toulon. I wonder if the scarcity was a matter of time. French generals decided, This is no time for aesthetics; flapping sails of our enemy's ships on stressed seelyn? My so striking is the binnewaartse leaning of the walls, the beginning of a pyramid. The bolwerke same and everyone has a clock tower. Our clock is cast before the 18th century in Amsterdam.
Fort Carré stands seashells dramatically on a small cape in Antibes - the name means quadrilateral. It was built under Henri III in 1565. A hundred years later, Vauban, the most revered military figures in France, fortversterk. There was reason: the English. Our castle was built probably for the same reason. In Fort Carré's long history wander there is a rumor that Napoleon himself for a short time in the 1790s kept.
Vauban, the Marechal of the country under Louis XIV, has left his mark. In Toulon, the port city west of Cannes, is another forte set by him. FortSaint-Louis, built between 1692 and 1699, stands guard over the bay where France is today a large and important seashells naval and air base. Eight years after the fortgebou, Toulon a month engaged in a fierce victory. And the history of walking. In the Second World War, the French Resistance series warships in the harbor late sink. It took the efforts of the Nazis severely bedeviled.
In Villefranche, east of Nice (the name means vote), is another seashells fort, probably the biggest I've ever seen. The massive walls meters thick and lay binnewaartse of the walls, they say, is a way to the kanonballe enemy ships omit shy. Today, within the walls at least two restaurants, a few kunsgalereie and a garden with an homage to Jean Moulin, leader seashells and martyr of the French Resistance.
Another big difference between Castle and the castles of the Côte d'Azur are the words of an elderly Cape tour guide: From the Castle's bolwerke never fired a single shot in anger. He said it with pride. The pride of the French, when they talk about the forts, comes from a different source.
